Nasser Abulhasan, Principal and co-founder partner of AGi architects, took part as lecturer at Future Interiors Qatar conference, held in early September in Doha. Under the title “Designing for functionality: minimizing operational costs”, Nasser had the opportunity to share with the audience the AGi architects’ vision on the value of design to achieve operational efficiency, based on the understanding of cognitive, emotional, cultural and operational needs of the people using the space.
Several projects by the design firm led by Nasser Abulhasan and Joaquín Pérez-Goicoeceha were used as case studies to show the principles of functional design by AGi architects. Some examples were Scenic House –Residential Project of the Year at Middle East Architect Awards 2015-, Qatar Courthouse –second prize at competition-, Hisham A. Alsager Cardiac Center –shortlisted for a WAF Award 2016 in the Completed Buildings Health category and National Winner “Social, Culture & Heritage Project of the Year at MEED Quality Awards 2016-, “La Ascensión del Señor” Church, in Spain – nominated for the EU Prize for Contemporary Architecture-Mies van der Rohe Award 2015 and Best Religious Building at WAF Awards 2014- or Great Tabriz Gate.
The event, focused on interior design, became particularly relevant in a country like Qatar, immersed in the design and construction of ambitious projects worth several millions of dollars. Attendees had the opportunity to network, understand how to design functional, cost-effective and sustainable interiors, discuss future projects and current challenges for Qatar’s design industry and review Qatar’s most innovative interior design projects.
