Last week it took place the 54th edition of the Milan International Furniture Fair, iSaloni 2015, with 310.840 visitors, including designers, architects, media, etc., who attended this fair, in which more than 2.000 exhibitors gathered in a 200.000 m2 exhibition area.
The theme blocks in which the fair is divided are; Classic, Modern, Design, Accessories and the Fuorisaloni with young designers. This year, the biennials ‘Euroluce’ and ‘Workplace 3.0 Salone Ufficio’ incorporated into the programme.
Naturally, we attendended to this worldwide reference event in the furniture design industry.
The first thing that we want to highlight is the evident increase in sales to the asian market. This increase contrasts with the lack of fresh and innovative ideas. Companies in the last few years have focused their marketing strategies on renowned products, therefore minimizing the risk involved in supporing new designers.
What drew our attention were certain spanish quality manufacture and design details, Particularly those made by Kettal, Santa & Cole and Capdell, with whom we have recently worked together in the ACURA Showroom project.
We would also like to highlight the italian classics, who never dissapoint, such as Poltrona Frau and Paola Lenti (in the images). In lighting, Carlo Moretti has shown very interesting lamps.
In addition to this, we fount that the Fuorisalone is more institutionalised each year; that is, there are less small design business but there is an increasing number of big sponsors, looking to associate their brand names to the quality and innovation which are intrinsic characteristics of this fair. With regards to this, we would like to stand out Sculpture In Motion, Reuben Margolin’s work made in cooperation with Hyundai Design Center.
3D design and printing are consolidated this year as the 36 lamp collection by Xuberance Chinese company, Cloud Series Lamp was selected as this edition’s winner of the Satellite Salón. These pieces were printed with 3D nylon powder using additive techniques that do not generate waste. However, in the sustainability section, we’d rather mentionthis other initiative, the PET Lamp Project, by Álvaro Catalán de Ocón.
If you have also visited the Salon or you know any of the works we mention, we would love to hear your views!
