Joaquín Pérez-Goicoechea, co-director of Umbra Light Festival Vitoria-Gasteiz

Joaquín Pérez-Goicoechea, Founding Partner of AGi architects, along with Rafael Gallego, Principal of Aureolighting, and Carlos Torrijos, Lighting Designer and founder of the firm Studio & Light, have designed Umbra Light Festival Vitoria-Gasteiz, which will fill with light and art the public spaces and emblematic buildings of the Alava capital during the days 21, 22 and 23 of February 2019, thus making the city and territory a touristic, cultural and technological reference.

Under the theme ‘Urbanisms of light. New urban landscapes’, the Festival will also have a cultural and professional program. The event is sponsored by the Basque Government, the Provincial Council of Alava and the City Council of Vitoria-Gasteiz.


Wind Tower, finalist in the Cityscape Awards

Wind Tower is shortlisted for the 2018 Cityscape Awards for Emerging Markets in the categories of Sustainability and Residential-Medium to High Rise Project Award (built). Winners will be announced in October at Dubai city.


Wind Tower, shortlisted for a WAF award

Our collective housing building Wind Tower will compete for a WAF Award in the Larger Scale Housing-Completed Buildings category, with other 16 shortlisted projects. Winners will be announced in Amsterdam, the European city hosting the current edition of the World Architecture Festival, on 28-30 November.


Second Prize for our competition entry “Centro de Arte de las Arquerías de Nuevos Ministerios”

Our project for the Centro de Arte de las Arquerías de Nuevos Ministerios, in Madrid, was awarded second prize at the competition organized by ENAIRE Foundation. The proposal takes as a starting point the recovery of the essence of the arcades, restoring its nature as a filter and reclaiming the “Gran Plaza” as a great public space for the city. The rehabilitation strategy of this new Art Center proposed by us is governed by four guidelines that will make the new center a social and cultural venue of Madrid city: recovery, transparency, identity and functionality.


AGi architects, Passive House Designers

After a long time working on sustainable projects, at AGi architects we take a step further with the Passive House Designer certification, a standardization that is present throughout Europe and that will gain even more strength in the European regulations for the coming years.

This certification reflects our work philosophy and commitment to sustainability, through high quality construction and precise implementation that provide high level of thermal comfort and extremely low energy consumption.

Nirvana Home, Residential Project of the Year National Winner at MEED Projects Awards

Our single-family Nirvana Home has become a National Winner in the Residential Project of the Year Award at the MEED Projects Awards, in association with Mashreq.

As National Winner, our work will now go on to be judged in the second stage of the Awards and judges will decide on the GCC Winners for each respective award category. GCC winners are announced at the awards ceremony, taking place on 2nd May in Dubai.


In Natura Veritas, awarded at MIPIM The Architectural Review Future Projects Awards

Our project for the renovation and muesalization of 18 Galician-Roman sites in Pontevedra, Galicia, Spain, In Natura Veritas, was awarded a Commendation in the Cultural Regeneration category of the MIPIM/The Architectural Review Future Projects Awards 2018.

Judges looked for evidence on how our project can go a long way to improving external perceptions of its area, as well as providing environmental, economic and social benefits.


Sustainability by AGi at Kuwait Construction Week

AGi architects participated at Kuwait Construction Week giving two lectures on sustainability and energy effectiveness. Aisha Alsager, Managing Director of our office in Kuwait, addressed sustainability embedded in design process. Lulu Al-Awadhi, Senior Architect at AGi architects Kuwait, showed one of our latest built projects, Wind Tower, as a case study on local environmental and urban typology. This project was recognized as Sustainable Project of the Year at the Middle East Architect Awards at the end of 2017.


Nasser Abulhasan, amongst 50 Middle East’s most influential architects

Middle East Architect magazine has just published its annual Who’s Who report including the 50 most influential architects from the Middle East. Once again, Nasser Abulhasan, Principal and Founding Partner of our design firm, is on the list. This selection highlights the architects that have positively contributed to the growing development of the region.

At the end of 2017, Nasser and Joaquin were Highly Commended for Principal of the Year, and our completed work Wind Tower awarded Sustainable Project of the Year at Middle East Architect Awards (MEAA).


More than 200,000 m2 of under construction projects in 2018

Projects for rehabilitation and landscape, collective and single-family housing, hospital and health centers, as well as retail projects, amongst others, set the pace of our work during this year 2018.

Designs as In Natura Veritas, for the musealization of 18 Galician-Roman sites in the Spanish province of Pontevedra and the rehabilitation of the Medieval Bridge of Furelos, in A Coruña, Galicia, Spain; hospital projects in Kuwait such as Shaikha Jassim Al Marzouq Kidney Transplant Hospital, and Breast Imagin Center; collective housing including the high-rise towers that make up the Complexes Wafra Living, Fawsec Campus, In-Transit Living; three private single-family homes; and retail projects, such as City Center, are some examples of the portfolio currently under development in which we are now working.
